Manchurian Survival 1989

In Latin America, the Argentines and the Bolivians finally disposed the remains of the Shining Path. The Tupac Amaru movement tried to replace them, but the results are still sketchy.

The Costa Ricans finally expelled the Nicaraguan Army, which is now falling under the Contras. Neighboring Panama, meanwhile, experienced an invasion by the United States after its dictator attempted to invade Costa Rica. 

In Madagascar, the Communist government was sacked by protesters thanks to French aid. This is the first communist regime in Africa that fell. Some will have to reform.

In South Africa, the rival states of Volkstaat and the Orange Free Republic are now aiming at each other, the latter being an AWB-controlled state. The original Oranjewerker movement ended up being purged and fled to Volkstaat-controlled territory. Meanwhile, the British control several areas in Eastern South Africa, waiting for the Zimbabwe and Mozambique-controlled Azania People's Republic to make its second move. 

In Tibet, there was a crackdown on protesters by the communist regime. The government is considering switching sides to Beijing, a move considered a treachery by many opposition groups, as China controls historical Eastern Tibet. In Uyghuristan, there are talks about democratizing the government, fearing they might collapse as Afghanistan was, almost. Most foreign troops left Afghanistan a year ago. 

In Ethiopia, the Eritrean movement re-emerged and is now in effective control of Eritrea.

Iraq later withdrew from Iran. They are in the process of building a nuclear weapon by this point, but on the preliminary stage. Saddam Hussein hated Egypt for its refusal to give them atomic bombs.

In Manchuria, Li Zhaolin is angry. The revolution is betrayed, he claimed. The "reforms", ordered from Moscow, are for him a Trojan Horse. Manchuria was heavily accused of "revisionism" by China, Albania, and North Korea. Then it turns out that they are just projecting their accusations on his country. Li then ordered a purge of the cabinet, and the public is treated on the spectacle of execution on TV day by day. And if the events in Romania showed, it would not end well for Li. The fledgling opposition must make their move quickly. The Army now withdrew from all foreign adventures. Many are angry that despite their best efforts, the standard of living are barely better than in North Korea. Factories are now becoming husks of rust. There is trade with China, but the Chinese distrust them, as they fear they might have a hand in the protests in Beijing, in which Li denounced as "counter-revolution".
