Japan post World War II.

President Truman had decided against using the A-bomb, feeling that he was not sure if the A-bomb work. Therefore, he ordered Operation Olympic and Coronet against Japan. At the same time, he and Stalin had an agreement: Manchuria will become Soviet-occupied, and all of the Korean Peninsula will be US-occupied. In return, the Russians will help in occupying North Japan.

1947: The Japanese have surrendered. The Russians kept their word. The Imperial Japanese war machine has been shattered. However, the seeds of future tensions begin.

Japan had emerged as two states, the Russian-sponsored People's Republic of Japan in Sapporo [later Sendai]; and the State of Japan in Tokyo. China is divided into three: the People's Republic of China, Taiwan and Hainan as the Republic; and the Democratic Socialist People's Republic of Manchuria, under Soviet control.

War was nearly averted in 1960 between the Japans only due to the intervention of the powers that be. Today, a semi-capitalist Manchuria, China, and North Korea, the first and the last supported by the reformed Soviet Union, and the State of Japan, an economic power on its own right, but with troubles, too.

Meanwhile, many people on the sides of the No-man's Land in Japan wanted to reunite the Japans. How would this be possible is up to speculation.

In Hetalia terms, South Japan is Kiku, Taiwan had Hainan with her, Manchuria was not put back into China, the Korean twins are just like the Italy brothers only even worse, annoying South Japan, and North Japan was what would be in the real world the embodiment of the Ainu people, and female. In fact, North Japan had Ainu and a Japanese that was purged of kanji as official languages.

Also just saw you said, STATE of Japan, does that mean America annexes the north and brings it into the Union?

No. The State of Japan remains an independent country: in fact, it is Japan's official name in the real world.

Actually, Japan's official English name is "Japan"

"State of Japan" is the transliteration of Japan's official name (日本国）in Japanese.

Just kidding. Although I did have an idea where the nation was divided by imerpial democracic ideals and socialist, mine was within the reverse. The empire lost Tokyo to the socialists in my plan.
